Instagram Reels are short videos under 90 seconds that appear on the Explore page to people near your location. When you show your shop, your new arrivals, or a festival offer in a Reel, nearby shoppers see it and decide to visit. You do not need a big budget or a studio; a smartphone and good natural light are enough to start.

The key is to make every Reel answer a question your shopper is already typing: what is new, what is the price, what is the deal today. If the first three seconds of your Reel show the product clearly and mention the price or discount, the viewer is more likely to save the video and walk in.

Free Tools to Make and Post Reels

Smartphone Camera and Built-in Editing

Most Indian smartphones now record in 1080p and have a built-in editor that can trim clips, add text, and change speed. You do not need to download any paid app. Open the camera, switch to Short Video or Reels mode, record 15 to 30 seconds, add a caption with the price, and post directly to your Instagram account.

Instagram Business Account

Convert your personal Instagram profile to a Business or Creator account. This is free and gives you access to Reels templates, analytics on who watched, and the ability to add a Shop tab. Go to Settings, switch to Business account, and link it to a Facebook Page if you already have one.

Google Business Profile and WhatsApp Business

While you are setting up Instagram, also claim your Google Business Profile. It is free and shows your shop address, hours, and photos when people search for your category near you. WhatsApp Business is another free tool; share the Reel link in your broadcast list or status and ask viewers to message you for stock details.

FRQ Starter Plan as a Free Online Store

If you also want an online storefront that works alongside your Instagram Reels, FRQ offers a Starter plan at Rs 0. You can list up to 50 products, get your own frq.in web address for the shop, and use the free counter billing tool. Shoppers on FRQ can browse your market and your shop before they visit in person, which pairs well with the traffic you send from Instagram.

5 Reel Formats That Bring Footfall

  • New Arrival Walkthrough: Film yourself walking through the rack, picking one outfit, showing it on a hanger, then zooming on the price tag. Caption: New arrivals just landed, price Rs [amount], visit us today at [shop address].
  • Festival Offer Reel: Overlay text like Diwali offer: buy 2 sarees get 1 free. Show the sarees, show the free one, and end with a shot of your shop board. Post at least 5 days before the festival.
  • Shopkeeper Greeting Reel: Stand at your shop entrance, smile, say Hi everyone, [shop name] has fresh stock of [product] at [price]. This builds trust and makes locals feel recognised.
  • Bargaining or Price Comparison Reel: Show two similar items side by side with prices Rs [X] and Rs [Y]. Explain the difference in fabric or stitching. Shoppers searching for the best price will save the video and come to compare in person.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Stitching or Packing Reel: Show a tailor stitching a blouse or a packer folding sarees for an online order. Add text like Every order is checked before it leaves the shop. This reassures buyers that quality control exists.

Posting Schedule and Local Hashtags

Post at least one Reel every day between 6 pm and 9 pm. This is when Indian shoppers browse Instagram after work or college. Use 3 to 5 local hashtags such as #YourCityNameShopping, #LocalShopName, #MarketName, and two product hashtags like #SareeLove or #KurtiStyle. Always add your shop address as a location tag so the Reel appears on the map when people search nearby.

Turn Views into Store Visits

End every Reel with a call to action that is easy to follow. Say Comment the word SAREE and we will message you the price, or Walk in today between 10 am and 8 pm. Pin the Reel with the best offer to the top of your profile. Reply to every comment within an hour; Instagram pushes accounts that engage quickly to more local viewers.

Track which Reels bring footfall by asking each new visitor how they found you. If several say they saw your Instagram Reel, you know that format works. Double down on it and try the next format from the list above.

Frequently asked questions

How many Instagram Reels should I post per week?▼

Start with five Reels per week, one each evening between 6 pm and 9 pm. If you see at least two store visits from Instagram in a week, keep the frequency. If footfall does not change, test a different time slot or a new reel format before increasing volume.

Do I need a professional camera or editing software?▼

No. A modern smartphone with good daylight is enough for the first 20 Reels. Use the free editor inside the Instagram camera or the phone gallery app to trim clips, add text, and adjust speed. Upgrade only when you notice your Reels are consistently blurry or hard to see indoors.

How do I show prices without spelling them wrong?▼

Write the price in the caption and also as on-screen text in the first three seconds of the Reel. Use the rupee symbol and clear digits, for example Rs 899. Avoid long numbers in the video frame; if the price is above Rs 9,999, say it aloud and write the full amount in the caption.

Can I use music in my Reels?▼

Yes, Instagram offers a free library of licensed songs. Tap the audio icon before posting and search for a track that matches your product mood. Keep the volume at 70 percent so your spoken words remain clear. Avoid songs with lyrics that distract from the price or offer you are showing.

What should I do if a viewer asks for a product I do not have?▼

Reply politely that you do not stock that item at the moment, and suggest two alternatives you do have. If the viewer insists, ask them to message you on WhatsApp so you can note their request for future buying. This keeps the conversation on Instagram and shows other viewers that you respond quickly.
